Here are some of your frequently asked questions ...
What are academies?
Academies are a new form of inclusive secondary school designed to meet the needs of students in the 21st century. They are independent of their local authority but publicly funded and monitored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and Ofsted.
When will the new West Salisbury academy open?
If the consultation stage is successful, the new academy will open in September 2010, with brand new buildings ready by September 2013.
Where will the new academy be located?
When it first opens, the new academy will be located on the site of Salisbury High School on Westwood Road.
Upon completion of the building programme, the academy may be:
- located on a new green-field site on the Wilton Estate, accessed from the Devizes Road
- on a partially new site
- re-built on the existing Westwood Road site.
- As a valuable member of the community, your thoughts will be taken into account – make sure you have your say!
What will the new academy be called?
The name of the new academy – as well as other things, such as the look of the uniform, the layout of the buildings and the academy policies – are all to be decided! That’s why it’s important to tell us your ideas at this consultation stage.
